Oversized derailleur cages — also known as OSPW (Oversized Pulley Wheel Systems) — replace the standard rear derailleur cage and pulleys with a larger, optimized assembly. Instead of the typical 11-tooth jockey wheels found on most derailleurs, oversized systems use larger pulleys (commonly 14T to 19T) mounted on high-performance bearings within a redesigned cage. The core principle is simple: larger pulleys reduce the chain’s articulation angle as it wraps around each wheel, which directly lowers friction.
